He reads ECE 22.06, Snell, and ASTM test protocols for fun, can explain why DOT is essentially an honor system without putting you to sleep, and tracks Virginia Tech and SHARP ratings and CPSC recalls so the recommendations here stay grounded in data rather than marketing. He leads the standards research, the editorial calls, and the "we would actually skip this one" verdicts.

Behind every roundup is the same process: pull the certification protocols, cross-check the independent lab and recall data, and read through hundreds of owner reports across Reddit and sport-specific forums so fit, durability, and noise issues surface before you spend a cent.
